Naxxar Victorians marked an important milestone on Saturday as the club claimed its first-ever win in the MAFA Knockout with a 2-1 victory over Mqabba Albions at the Qormi FC Grounds.
The result marks the first time the Victorians have won a match in this cup competition since joining MAFA in 2017, making it a proud day for the club and its supporters.
Mqabba made the stronger start and went ahead after 17 minutes, leaving Naxxar with work to do in the first half. However, the Victorians responded well and found a way back into the match before the break.
The match turned in Naxxar’s favour after the change of ends. Keith Zammit Tabone struck in the 50th minute to complete the comeback and put the Victorians 2-1 ahead.
Fabrizio Farrugia brought Naxxar level 15 minutes later, scoring the equaliser just before half-time to give the team fresh belief heading into the second half.
Naxxar then held on to secure a memorable win and book their place in the second round of the MAFA Knockout.
The Victorians will now wait to learn their next opponent, with the second-round fixture scheduled to take place on 23 May.
