Naxxar – Mosta Derby to open new season in MAFA Division 3

Victorians skip over KO Preliminaries

Naxxar Victorians will face derby rivals Mosta Vikings on the first matchday of the new season in MAFA Division Three. This was announced during Wednesday’s draw for the campaign by the Association.

This season begins on September 16 with the Twanny Agius Cup, one which pits against each other the winners of each division’s Fair Play award winners of last season. This means that the Victorians will start their commitments at a later stage. The team will be making use of the Qormi grounds for the season.

With fixtures being officially confirmed by Friday August 4, the first matchday was drawn with our boys facing a Mosta side that returns to MAFA after a season’s absence as the derby rivalry restarts this year.

Apart from Mosta, the club’s opponents this coming season will be Kalkara Flames, Hamrun Amateurs, and Hal Far Titans.

Meanwhile, in the knockout competition, Naxxar Victorians have avoided the Preliminary round of fixtures and will play immediately in the first round. Our first opponent this year will be Division Two side Ghaxaq Wolves.

Coach Connor Muchmore confirmed for second season

The Naxxar Victorians would like to announce that coach Connor Muchmore will be staying with the club for another season following his debut season in charge throughout the 2022-23 season.

While last season was not our best season, the club has agreed to continue Muchmore’s project with focus now shifted on the return to the MAFA Division Two by the end of the new season.

Muchmore has been part of the Naxxar Victorians club since 2017 as a player where he was the leading scorer as the club’s starting striker under coach Antony Spiteri and Luke Camilleri. His playing career was cut short due to a knee injury that prevented him from continuing in his position, but he then returned as the assistant coach to former Victorians mentor Frans Spiteri before taking over the leading role in the summer of 2022.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish coach Connor all the best for the coming season.

Club celebrates Night of the Victorians 2023

The Naxxar Victorians players and staff celebrated another season during the weekend at the annual ‘Night of the Victorians’ awards night at Kimchi.

Despite the 2022-23 season being particularly disappointing for the club, suffering an unfortunate relegation, the club remains focused on its project and decided to award the efforts of its players throughout the season.

The 2022-23 season’s Best Player award was awarded to Keith Zammit Tabone. The central midfielder had two goals and was instrumental for the club throughout the season. The two other nominees this year were Antonio Dattoli and last season’s winner Fabrizio Farrugia.

Voted by his peers as the Players’ Player for the season after an interval voting by the full set of players in our season’s roster was Italian defender Antonio Dattoli.

In this year’s Most Improved award, the prize was awarded to Maverick Grech, who won the award after his debut season with the club. The two other nominees were also new players – Julian Micallef and Julian Sultana.

Another award introduced in this edition of the awards night was the Most Committed Award with the winner being another rookie, defender Julian Micallef. Maverick Grech and Mikhail Duca were the other two nominees for this award.

Finally, the Top Scorer award was given to Fabrizio Farrugia who led the team’s scoring with three goals this past season, followed by Maverick Grech and Keith Zammit Tabone who both had two goals to their name.

At the end of the ceremony, each player in attendance was handed a commemorative memento by club president Karl Borg for being with us throughout the season. Coach Connor Muchmore and assistant coach Antoine Farrugia were handed appreciation plaques for their services to the club.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we would like to thank all of the players who were available to us throughout the 2022-23 season in MAFA Division Two and we would like to congratulate all the winners of this edition of the ‘Night of the Victorians’.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Naxxar Victorians kit launch

Naxxar Victorians celebrated the launch of a new set of kits to commemorate the club’s fifth anniversary in September, ahead of the start of the 2022-23 season in MAFA’s Division Two.

Among the commemorative events, the club held its very first press conference to address this important milestone in the club’s history, and the players got a chance to have a look at the kits, and eventually try them on for a friendly with members of staff from shirt sponsors Pharmacare Premium Ltd.

The club committee had been liaising since the previous season, ahead of the official launch in September, and from the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we would like to thank all parties involved in the decision-making process.

Special thanks go to our friends at Printart for making our new kits as beautiful as we hoped they would be. We can’t wait to showcase all this throughout the season in both our ‘home’ and ‘away’ games.

VIDEO: Victorians launch fifth-anniversary kits

The Naxxar Victorians football club is pleased to announce the launch of its new kits for ‘home’ and ‘away’ games (outfield players & goalkeepers).

The new kits now of the PUMA brand should take the team into a new generation of Victorians, aiming for greatness.

The club opted to move away from the blue ‘away’ colours and go bold with a futuristic black and grey while the all-red ‘home’ kit remains as the club’s identity.

In an official launch, club president Karl Borg said it had been the aim of the club’s committee to go big for the club’s fifth anniversary.

Club secretary Nathan Farrugia said the prominent marketing for club sponsors Pharmacare Premium was part of the partnership agreement, placing their branding on the new set of kits.

On behalf of shirt sponsors Pharmacare, Jeremy Busuttil showed his enthusiasm towards the project both parties have embarked on together.

“Everything came together perfectly when Naxxar Victorians were looking for a sponsor, Pharmacare were looking to invest in sports in the local area. Things aligned and we managed to issue a sponsorship deal with Naxxar,” Busuttil said.

“Our idea is to invest more in the local market and the local community, especially in sports. We will continue to sponsor not just football but other types of sports in Malta as well.

“I’m very happy to see the result of our sponsorship. The kits are fantastic, the colours are perfect and they envisage the quality that Pharmacare Premium thrives on, and we’re very happy and excited for the season ahead and we hope to see both Naxxar and Pharmacare’s colours on the ground throughout the games, online.”

Official Statement: Departing Players

With every season that takes place, the club looks for new players to improve the squad, and replace those departing players who have decided to leave the club at the end of the previous season.

Naxxar Victorians can confirm that defender James Pecorella, midfielder Ian Ciantar and forward Ousmane Watara have left the club. The latter will be heading to newly-promoted MAFA Division Two side Zabbar Southsiders after three years at the club.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish all three the best for the future in their personal and professional life.

Connor Muchmore

Naxxar Victorians appoint Connor Muchmore as head coach

The Naxxar Victorians are proud to confirm that we have appointed former player, and assistant coach, Connor Muchmore as our new head coach for the coming season in the Malta Amateur Football Association (MAFA) Division two.

Muchmore, a former striker for the club, had hung up his boots due to injury. However, had stayed at the club to assist former head coach Frans Spiteri for the 2019-20 season. He now returns as the team’s mentor as the club aims for a better finish in the 2022-23 season.

Commitment

Muchmore conducted his first sessions with the club, with the official preseason kicking off this week. Speaking to www.naxxarvictorians.com, Muchmore said he was excited to get involved with the club yet again.

“I’m happy to take on the offer from the Victorians Committee as Head Coach after initial discussions, I’m excited to get involved at a different level since retiring as a player, and obviously due to the previous experiences as player and assistant it felt like a great place to start this path,” Muchmore said.

Asked about his goals for the season, the new Victorians coach emphasized the commitment he wishes to see from his players.

“As a club, we should always aim as high as we can, we as a club want promotion but we also need to follow the processes put in place,” he explained.

“If we work hard and hit the targets I’m putting into place step by step the goals will be reached.

“The season is a marathon not a sprint at the end of the day. So far, I’m pleased with the massive increase in commitment and effort from the players after a disappointing season last year. As long as they’re all on board then we’ll move in the right direction together.

“I have experience with a number of the players, and with the new recruits getting involved I have no doubt they can reach the expectation levels that I have.”

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish Connor Muchmore all the best for the coming season!

Debono named Victorians technical director

The Naxxar Victorians have named Kyle Debono as the team’s technical director for the coming season. With the return of normality within the MAFA league after last year’s Special League, the club has opted for a more organised setup and the appointment of former Victorians player Debono as the technical director was one of the proposed steps.

Debono will be working hand in hand with the team’s head coach Karl Borg, particularly on the likes of tactical approach and the physical aspect of training.

Debono was previously part of the coaching staff at Mellieha FC in the BOV National Amateur League, as well as one of the team’s youth coaches.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish Kyle Debono all the best for the coming season!

Karl Borg confirmed Victorians coach for new season

President Karl Borg, who led the Naxxar Victorians side through last season’s MAFA Special League as head coach, aided by Frans Spiteri, has been officially confirmed as coach again for the coming season following a formal agreement this past week.

Agreed upon in a Victorians administrative committee meeting in July, Borg will be looking towards building on the club’s ongoing project on the pitch which has seen a strong basis of players remaining last season, while simultaneously adding new talent to the squad. Spiteri will be stepping down from his previous position of head coach after mutual agreement.

Borg said he was enthusiastic about the upcoming season, and plans to begin the squad’s preparation with the aim of improving what the club has achieved so far. He has also explained that once again, he will be looking for new recruits to help strengthen the squad, especially due to the fact that holding midfielder Jason Camilleri, and wingers Gonzalo Bueno and James Camilleri will not be forming a part of the team.

While we wish Karl Borg all the best for the coming season as head coach of the club, from the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com we would like to wholeheartedly thank Frans Spiteri for his services, his friendship, and advice both to the team’s players as well as the committee.

Committee for season 2021/22 confirmed

Following the announcement of our very first vice-president this week, the club can confirm that the committee has now been confirmed in its entirety for the coming season. Roles were revised at the end-of-season meeting where as part of the agenda, current members presented the results of their seasonal objectives as well as their plans for the coming season.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that Karl Borg will remain the club’s president after unanimous voting. As stated previously, Antoine Farrugia will take on the role of Vice-President, while Nathan Farrugia was confirmed as General Secretary. The latter will also remain our designated COVID-19 officer as we persist in being fully focused on keeping our club safe during these times.

The club’s finances will remain the responsibility of our Chief Financial officer (CFO) Matthew Gauci after a successful three seasons, even considering hardships suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic which has seen our club lose most of its partners.

With the www.naxxarvictorians.com project in full swing, all media and communications across the club remain in the hands of communications officer Kurt Aquilina.

Mikhail Duca, who will be our designated scout this year, will also be occupying one of three non-specific member roles, together with club captain Christopher Cutajar who will represent the club’s players at committee meetings, and vice-captain Kyle Agius.

Health and Safety

Another item on this end-of-season meeting was protecting our players’ safety. Both in terms of COVID-19 and our general health, the committee has discussed ways to go ahead. The club will, at this point, request that all players are vaccinated and ahead of the start of preseason training on July 20, have available their vaccine certificate to assure the safety of each player.

Added to this, was the beginning of discussions with NGOs about a sports first aid course. This point of discussion arose following the Euro 2020 incident where Denmark player Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch against Finland. Further information about this project will be announced at a later stage.

Finally, the decision about this season’s kits has also been taken. This season, our players will be wearing the same red home kit and blue away kit. However, it has been discussed that a change might be in the plans as the club celebrates its fifth anniversary next season.

FORZA VICTORIANS!

Antoine Farrugia appointed new Vice President

Ahead of the new season in MAFA, the Naxxar Victorians administrative committee met up for its season-planning session over the past week. While the main focus was to set this season’s targets, many new initiatives were discussed, including the introduction of a new role within the committee itself- the Vice President.

Since the club’s initiation, the role of the Vice-President has never been included. However, as the club continues to grow the need for an experienced individual to be of guidance has arisen. That being said, the club has appointed Antoine Farrugia for the role.

Farrugia will oversee numerous areas within the committee, also acting as another set of eyes from the outside of the pitch in order for the committee to remain focused.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we wish Antoine all the best in his new role!

FORZA VICTORIANS!

New Victorians website up and running

The new and updated www.naxxarvictorians.com website is finally online!

As part of its project aimed for the further growth of the Naxxar Victorians club, the committee’s communications department has made this improved data hub one of its major goals throughout the seasons in MAFA so far. This latest move, now sees our club being a much better-looking organization among sporting entities.

One very important aspect of this new site is the statistics features, where players, staff as well as our fans now have the option to check out how we’re doing in a more professional and easy-to-access way.

With the 2020/21 season, being a makeshift tournament called the MAFA Special League, this has provided the club with adequate time to work on this ambitious project which will give all of you an all-around better experience with the club.

We hope you enjoy our new home and make sure to subscribe below for first preference on all our news, matchday information, and merchandise.

Farrugia named Victorians COVID-19 officer

Naxxar Victorians defender Nathan Farrugia has become the latest addition to the club’s committee as its covid-19 officer.
Farrugia, will be in charge of all covid-19 pandemic-related issues and the coordination of protocol in the name of the club.

With the pandemic in full swing, especially in Malta where cases are averaging over 100 a day across a population of less than one million citizens, a number of ‘Return to play’ regulations have been entered into effect.

The club has invested in temperature collection equipment as well as sanitizer â€‹for its players and training equipment. Added to that, players were given an official club facemask to wear as a unified way of following protocol and staying safe during these times.

From the Naxxar Victorians and www.naxxarvictorians.com team, we advise all to stay safe.

Club committee revamped ahead of post covid-19 restart

The Naxxar Victorians re-established the club’s administration in the summer amid preparations for the new season.

The 2019/29 season was halted midway due to the Coronavirus outbreak with five matches to go, leaving MAFA with the decision to take regarding what was to happen with the league. Eventually, after a vote taken by all club representatives, it was concluded that the first and second divisions of the league would in turn become null.

While this is not the outcome any football supporter would expect or hope for, the committee made the most of the early break to kick things off early ahead of the 2020/21season which has been confirmed following restrictions being lifted by government.

As a result, the first thing on the club’s agenda was in fact the top of the hierarchy- the committee. While the club’s committee has embarked on numerous important projects during the 2019/20 season, it was felt that certain upgrades were needed.

Karl Borg held his post as supremo for the fourth successive season. Similarly, Matthew Gauci – the Victorians’ financial officer – will be taking care of the club’s books again and Kurt Aquilina – the club’s communications officer – will be in charge of all public relations and media related items coming in and out of the club.

The club’s secretary general, Clayton Cachia, who joined the administration during the 2019/20 season, retains his role for another season while Christopher Cutajar and Mikhail Duca have a joint task of maintaining and establishing relationships with the club’s present and future partners. Kyle Agius rejoins the committee after an absence of two seasons and will now be a bridge between the club’s administration and squad as well as taking control of the club’s fundraising events. The full list can be found below.
