Recap
Naxxar Victorians FC kicked off their season with a goalless draw against newly formed St Paul’s Bay NMFC in a tightly contested match at Qormi FC Grounds. The 0-0 result leaves both teams with a point as they aim to settle into the league.
Naxxar dominated possession and created several chances throughout the game. Connor Muchmore, Fabrizio Farrugia, Keith Zammit Tabone, and Mahmoud Elousta all tested NMFC’s defence, but unfortunately, their shots sailed over the bar, leaving Naxxar frustrated in front of goal.
Key substitutions were made at halftime when Kurt Aquilina replaced the injured Giuseppe Dattoli in the left-back position. Later, midfielder Clayton Falzon came on for Nathan Farrugia, and right-back Julian Sultana replaced Christopher Cutajar, who also left due to injury. Late in the game, striker Luke Mifsud and winger Owen Damato were introduced for Connor Muchmore and Mahmoud Elousta, but the added energy wasn’t enough to break the deadlock.
Nathan Farrugia picked up the only yellow card for Naxxar in the second half for accumulated fouls, adding a cautious tone to the closing stages of the match.
Before the game, both teams started the day without points as it was the first match of the season. Following this draw, Naxxar Victorians will look to build momentum in the coming weeks, with everything still to play for.
This was the first time these two sides faced each other in MAFA, and while neither team could claim victory, both will take positives from the performance.
